History of the Restaurant

Diocletian’s wine house has an interesting history! The restaurant is situated in the middle of the small Nepot street in the Diocletian Palace, just meters away from the palace main square Peristil (and the past residence of the Roman emperor). The restaurant found its place in the exact position of first ever restaurant in Split, 16 centuries ago!

Diocletian Wine House restaurant is a successor to the old Diocletian palace “food place”!

The street is, coincidentally, also the place where Nepot’s (Roman emperor) assassination took place! As you can see this small street simply radiates history and interesting stories of the city’s grand past. This creative environment,  in the heart of one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean, combined with a creative team is a recipe for a perfect gastro experience.

Here, under the 3 stone arches, you can try some of the tastiest Mediterranean dishes (with a modern twist). All of the ingredients used are fresh, and natural, and come from Split and surrounding areas.

For the most authentic taste of Split, and Central Dalmatia, come to the Diocletian Wine House. We can’t wait to serve you!
